Faqs:
How do you attach the hardware being tested to the shaker?
By means of a fixture, usually aluminum or magnesium for lightness coupled with rigidity. They can be cast, or smaller fixtures machined from solid stock. Most fixtures are welded.
How do you control the shakers?
Control commands go into the keyboard of a specially-programmed computer. The shaker can be commanded to shake at one frequency at a time or vibrate randomly to excite all resonances simultaneously.
What are resonances and are they bad?
Resonances are magnifications of motion, like a steering wheel moving with large displacement. They can cause damage over time, such as bending fatigue failure or damage to printed wiring boards and soldered connections.
